Plenary I - Simon Etherton, British Council, Chennai

The employability skills toolbox: Is English the Key?

Simon Etherton is the Senior Training Consultant for the British Council South India supporting the planning and implementation of State Partnership teacher education programmes in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Previously Simon has worked as the Head of English Training for the Ministry of Education in Oman and as a lecturer at the University of Exeter in the UK. Areas of specialism include initial literacy, practitioner research and teacher knowledge.

Plenary II - Dr. Ramani, P.N. ELT Consultant, Chennai

ESL Classroom to Workplace - Preparing Learners for the Transition

Dr. P.N Ramani, ELT specialist, curriculum developer, teacher trainer, ELT administrator and quality assurance expert in the higher education sector, is currently a freelance ELT/English Studies consultant in Chennai.  A teacher with over 40 years of experience mostly at the tertiary level, author of several ELT course books and research papers, and content head for a set of educational CD-ROMs for learning English at elementary, intermediate and advanced levels, he has initiated and implemented curricular reforms in ELT in India and the Middle East, guided research at M. Phil. and doctoral levels as well as the Master's level, evaluated PhD and MPhil dissertations/theses, and has been a ‘Reader’ and reviewer of quality audit portfolios (i.e., self-study reports) of higher education institutions in Oman.


 Plenary-III: Michelle Stabler-Havener, Regional English Language Office (RELO)

Teaching Oral English for Employability Using Communicative Language Techniques

 Michelle Stabler-Havener, Senior English Language Fellow serving at the Regional Institute  of English, South India, has taught ESL in the Los Angeles area and EFL in China. She has conducted teacher trainings in the US, India, China, Thailand, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Her professional interests include assessment, reflective teaching practices, and intercultural communication. She is originally from York, Pennsylvania.



Plenary IV – Shefali Kulkarni, British Council, Chennai

Communicating effectively through English: the confidence conundrum

Shefali Kulkarni works as a Senior Teacher Trainer with the British Council. She has extensive experience in teaching at all levels and teacher training. She has worked as a corporate trainer for more than 13 years. She is interested in learner autonomy and inclusive education.
